Women in Power E-Conference Events

2020 has gone differently than most of us expected…

While we were unable to host our annual conference in person, we created a weekly digital series to spotlight many of the topics pertaining to gender, power, and how we move forward removing systemic barriers (even from home). We believe that now more than ever individuals and communities could benefit from opportunities to connect about these important issues.

Join our community in conversation, learning, and growing.

Grassroots Advocacy and Media Portrayals of Race, Gender, and Protests

We invited our community to join our discussion focused on analyzing how the media portrays civil struggles around race and gender, examining coverage through the lens of intersectionality. We sought to create space for and to elevate conversations about advocacy efforts that will facilitate systemic change in America. The media plays an important role in shaping the narratives of power and disenfranchisement. We gained insights from our guest speakers about media coverage, it’s direct implications on race and gender, and peaceful journalistic solutions.

Our panelists were Rachel Bowen Pittman (Executive Director of UNA-USA), Vincent Bish (Former Operations Director Slack for Good & Obama Administration Appointee), Steven Youngblood (Director of Center for Global Peace Journalism), and Michael Patrick Macdonald (NYT Bestselling Author and Activist) and the session was moderated by Alexandra Stratton (Journalist and Harvard Kennedy School U.S. Latinx Leadership Fellow ‘22).
